With the snow comes my want for warm food. I crave warm breakfasts and my winter comfort foods. These toasties were good but I think I will try a different recipe next time I want to make these. In the end there were only 6 small-ish toasties. But they were a good, warm breakfast. Here’s the recipe.
I’m sorry for not posting earlier. I thought that once school started I would get back into the rythm of baking, posting, baking, posting. Apparently not. I’m terrible for procrastinating. A couple of weeks ago I got Mastering the Art of French Cooking from my public library. Amazing. I made cream puffs and they turned out great. They were very easy. Thank you Julia, thank you very much.
I’m noticing there are apples everywhere, not only on the ground outside, but all over in the blogging world as well. I had a few apples in the refrigerator, not enough to make a pie, but I was hungry for exactly that, a pie. This was the easiest, fastest thing I could think up. Apple Pie Pockets. And they taste delicious with maple walnut icecream.
I’ve been planning out my sweet 16. I turned 16 this summer, but I didn’t have a party. And now I am. So this week I will keep you posted throughout this week. Today I made the party favours. Cookies. One of my friends is a Celiac so I bought a gluten-free chocolate chip cookie mix. I just tried one and they are delicious. Who knew gluten-free food could be so good?
Contrary to many people, I love going back to school. I love being able to see my friends everyday, I love eating lunch with them, and I love hanging out with them. Another thing I love about going back to school is the amount of time I have to blog. Since I was gone almost all summer, I found little time to bake. Now I have more time. I can bake and cook to calm down after a long day of school. During summer break I had this idea of oreo cupcakes. But I wanted to do something different. I didn’t know if it would work or not, but it did. These cupcakes were a hit.
I needed to quickly make 2 dozen cupcakes, so why not use a cake recipe? I used a nice moist chocolate cake recipe (will include soon) and for the icing, an adaption from vegan buttercream. I loved the chocolate against the creamy colour of the buttercream icing. Not only were the colours beautiful together, they tasted fantastic together. I often find buttercream is too heavy in the summer, as well as cream cheese, so this vegan buttercream was fantastic. Nice and light next to the chocolate cake. And they look elegant, I think.
